Description

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa

We’ll begin the adventure with a 4:30 AM hotel pick-up and drive through Izcuchaca and Limatambo, reaching Mollepata (2900 m.a.s.l.) by 7:30 AM for a delicious breakfast and to drop off 5 kg bags for the horsemen. From there, we’ll take a transport to Challacancha (3380 m.a.s.l.) and start a scenic hike to Soraypampa (3900 m.a.s.l.), where a buffet-style lunch awaits. In the afternoon, we’ll ascend for 1.5 hours to the breathtaking Humantay Lake (4220 m.a.s.l.) with its turquoise waters and towering Apu Humantay. Returning to camp, we’ll unwind with tea time and snacks before enjoying a hearty dinner and resting in cozy Andean cabins under the stars.

Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay – Colpapampa (22 km – 10 hours)

At 5:00 AM, we’ll start with an energizing breakfast before beginning our trek to the Salkantay Pass (4650 m.a.s.l.), where we’ll be surrounded by impressive views of the Salkantay, Humantay, and Tucarhuay snow-capped peaks. We’ll then descend to Huayracmachay (3800 m.a.s.l.) for lunch before continuing our descent to Colpapampa (2900 m.a.s.l.), where we’ll set up camp for the night.

Day 3: Colpapampa – Playa Sahuayaco – Lucmabamba (14 km – 5 hours)

After breakfast, we’ll hike for 5 hours through the cloud forest, passing coffee plantations, orchids, and bromeliads. We’ll reach Playa Sahuayaco for a buffet lunch, then take a bus to Lucmabamba. Here, we’ll have the option to visit the Cocalmayo hot springs (Santa Teresa), not included in the package. In the evening, we’ll return to camp for tea and dinner.

Day 4: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes (18 Km – 7 hours)

We’ll start the day with breakfast in a tropical zone full of history and nature. Then, we’ll hike to Llactapata (3 hours) to explore the ruins, followed by a 2-hour descent to Hidroeléctrica for lunch. We’ll continue our walk through a tropical zone to Aguas Calientes, where we’ll settle into our accommodations (Machu Picchu Inn hotel). In the evening, we’ll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

We’ll rise early to visit the iconic Machu Picchu. During the guided tour, we’ll explore the temples, terraces, palaces, and the famous Inca terraces. Afterward, you’ll have time to take photos and explore on your own.

The best time for the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is from April to October, during the dry season. The weather is milder, and trekking conditions are better. However, it can still get cold at night, especially at higher altitudes.
